Swargarohini
Swargarohini is one of the biggest fantasies for trekkers from India and abroad as well. It is a mountain massif in the Bandarpunch Range of the Garhwal Himalaya. It falls in the state of Uttarakhand , India. It is basically a group of four peaks, of which Swargarohini I draws highest attention and notice. Though Swargarohini is not the highest peak in the Bandarpunch range, it is of notable importance for its legendary association and geography as well. Mountaineers, trekkers, adventure freaks and others love trekking to Swargarohini as the trail offers thrill adventure and of course to experience and see the unbound beauty of the place. The importance of Swargarohini gets enhanced by many folds owing to its legendary belief. As per the great epic of Mahabharata, it is believed that Pandavas and their wife Draupidi, in their journey to Heaven, ascended Swargarohini. It is believed that it is the only way one can go to heaven with human body itself. But climbing Swargarohini is not an easy task as during Mahabharata times also, only Yudhistir could ascend the peak to reach the doors of heavens, and in modern time as well there were no records of conquering the peak till May 3, 1990. During this year, a team of instructors from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering successfully climbed the peak. Climbing gets so difficult because the peak is very steep with its north face drops 2,000 meters (6,560 ft) in less than 2 kilometers of horizontal distance, and its south face achieves the same drop in less than 3 kilometers. Though climbing Swargarohini is a difficult task and not a cup of tea for everyone, but trekking to the base of Swargarohini is one of the life time experience. Beyond Badrinath it is one of the most taken up treks by the travelers. Along with thrill, adventure and fun, this trail offers a beautiful experience of being in midst of snow clad mountains on four sides, green grass, small streams, River Tons and innumerable flowers with various colors and shades. During the trek one sees a glacier flowing at some distance, no noise except that of flowing river and birds’ chirping, soothing and cool breeze, fresh air, no pollution and crowd; all these together builds the feeling of being in heaven itself.

How to Reach

Trek to Swragarohini

This trek is mostly taken up by the visitors of Badrinath. From Badrinath one has to travel around 3 km to reach Village Mana, which is located at an altitude of 3,000 meter. Manna Village is a small and the last Indian village dotting the border with Tibet; it is just 3km away from Badrinath. Proper communication is there to reach Manna Village from Badrinath. From Manna Village it’s a trek of around 23 kms to reach the Swargarohini Base. For a moderate traveler it takes around four to 5 days to complete the trek and come back to village Manna. While on the trail, there is no accommodation facility, so one has to carry tents, mats, sleeping bags, food items, stove to cook, water, etc. However, potters are available at Manna Village to carry the luggage.
